Mindfulness Relaxation

This Sunday, we very glad that to have Dr Pang with us in sharing some skills of mindfulness relaxation.Nowadays life is quite stressful either in adult age or children.Everyday, children need to face with a lot of challenges( homework, tuition,extra-co curriculum).

So Dr Pang today get us to do some light relaxation activities that related to stressing and relax our body muscle with the control of breathing.

After some short sharing, we get to do some practical. We started from our hands, head, legs and finally notice the movement of the stomach when we are breathing.

Hands
  1. Squeeze the oranges--Straighthen both of your arms.Imagine you are holding oranges in both of your hands.Squeeze it.....feeling the stress of ur muscle.Meantime count....1,2,3......10.Then let go....(can feel, actually got sound effect add-on)??
  2. Superman--pose like superman.Count to 10 and relax
  3. Turtle--Make you head into your sholuder like the turtle.Count to 10 and relax.
  4. Hold the ceiling--Imagine the ceiling is falling down and you hold it from the bottom with both of you arm straighthen.....count to 10 and relax

Mouth(all bout making the sound)

  1. A--making the A sound with you mouth open wide.Need to feel the stress of the muscle on you face.Count to 10 and relax
  2. O--making the sound of O and count to 10 then relax
  3. E--making the sound of E and count to 10 then relax

Legs

  1. Imagine you are picking up a tissue paper from the floor using your toes.Stress it and relax after 10 count.
  2. Straighthen you whole feet to the front and feel the stressing of muscle.Relax after 10 counts
  3. Straighthen your whole feet backwards and feel the stressing of muscle.Relax after 10 counts.

So, basically this is all the activities in mudfulness relaxation.Easy and relaxing.Just remind me of one song that sis. Khoo taught us...Breathing in, breathing out.......

April Movie Sharing Session--Our Earth ,Our Home

Started from 5th of April, Kajang Buddhist Center Youth Section organizes movie sharing session throughout the month. For April, our theme is --Our Earth,Our Home. This month, movie shown will base on the environment issues and the way to raise our awareness towards our nature.

On the 5th April, we had shown the movie Fireflies : River of the Light(Hotaru no hoshi)
It is a Japanese movie directed by Hiroshi Sugawara.

"Hotaru no Hoshi" is quite a wonderful film. It is a warm story about a young teacher who has some good ideas about teaching, but he finds himself up against Japan's regimented and conservative school system.

As a class project he decides to raise Hotaru (fireflies). Through the project his students become united and end up cleaning up a local river so the fireflies will have a home.

After the show, Sis Chiew Kok had a small sharing and discussion with us.Everybody voiced out their opinion about the environment and the importance of it.

It seems that, fireflies is a common bugs for the adult during their childhood time. But for us....it is rare.So for the coming generation, as a part of the nature, we should protect our environment.

Behind Her Eyes Is The Power To Change The World

Today, instead of proceeding to class, a movie has been prepared by Sis. Ong. It’s an educational movie titled ‘The Miracle Worker’.

The movie, The Miracle Worker is a television remake of William Gibson's classic play about Annie Sullivan's efforts to draw Helen Keller from her world of darkness and silence.

Helen Keller was disabled, she was blind and deaf but she was not disabled since birth. When she was very small, she develops a fever known at that time as the scarlet fever (a very high fever) that causes her these disabilities after she recovered. Her loving parent did not give up and brought her up lovingly but in the wrong way that made her spoilt. They gave her sweets whenever she throws a tantrum to calm her down even if she does wrong. Out of desperation, they sought for help and Anne Sullivan a young educator who was once blind came. Much to their parent dismay, Anne is very strict and firm…

The movie indeed educational and touching. Now,just take a few seconds look around, hear around, speak a few words. Then slowly close your eyes, ears and motuh......feel it ,feel the difference.....Be contented and appreciate what you have now.

So,if you had watched the movie. What do you think about it?

Pebbles & Stones and A handful of Sponge Balls!

Class begin as usual after Puja and a short hymn singing session.

This week in class, Sis. Khoo given us some ideas to create our very own games.Games that can teach dhamma as we suggested during the early session of class.

So we was grouped into three groups and each groups are given a jar filled with pebbles(different size)Then ,we were asked to took out and content and refill it again. It seems to be an easy job,but when we really do it....it is not that easy. This game can related to time we used in our life, foundation for doing things........

We regroup again due to an addition of two late students (haha – that would be Ee Jane and Ai Leng). This time Sis. Khoo handed us each 4 colourful sponge balls, red, blue, green and yellow. She told us, we can learn many lessons, and it depends on who we are for every each of us might learn and apply something different. The game goes like this, each group consisting of about 6 students are to each touch the coloured sponge balls in the very same order of colours in the shortest time possible!
The fastest time achieved was 0.25 seconds. That’s fast! Various methods are used by the 3 groups. Among them:
  • One by one touching the sponge ball one by one in turns.

  • Together touching the balls one by one.

  • Holding the sponge balls in place with two bottles, tying every group member fingers and touch the balls one by one.
(this method is tried again, but instead of touching one by one, the fingers swept through the sponge balls)

  • Tying the sponge balls and together sweeping through.

  • Clipping the sponge balls at the door, and sweeping through (this group manage 0.25 secs on first try)

What are the lessons learn? Why don’t you comment and tell us =)
